What are the characteristics of solids and liquids?
Matter exists in three primary states: solid, liquid, and gas. A solid is a type of matter that keeps its shape, such as ice. This happens because the particles that make up a solid are tightly bonded together, making the structure very hard and stable.

A liquid is a substance that flows easily and has a certain volume but no fixed shape, like water. In a liquid, the bonds between particles are relatively weak, which allows the particles to move fast and flow. Because of this, a liquid will take the shape of whatever container it is in, while its total volume remains exactly the same.

What are the properties of gases?
Gases are a unique state of matter because they flow freely and do not have a fixed volume. In a gas, the particles have almost no bonds among them, which makes them even more free to move than liquid particles. This allows gaseous substances, like water vapor or scents, to travel and expand everywhere.

Common items in our daily lives frequently change between these three states. For example, solid butter turns into a liquid when heated for cooking.
Similarly, ice can melt into water or freeze back into a solid depending on whether the particles absorb or release heat.
